If you haven’t heard of Ben Bartlett, it is time you did.
As a person who maintains a realistic stance that blockchain technology will soon become integrated into most of the sectors and industries that we interact with, a key indicator of this integration is that of government adoption. So when I came across an article a few months back about a Berkeley Councilmember who was spearheading a blockchain initiative to reduce homelessness, it deeply resonated with me. More specifically, this program would institute a microbond project on the blockchain to fund affordable housing, which would be the first of its kind in California.
The more I looked into Councilmember Barlett’s platform, the more I became aware of the fact that he is more than just a lawmaker who is a blockchain enthusiast. He is an innovator seeking to usher in a new economy that will truly support social justice and economic equity.
Some of the leadership roles and accomplishments Mr. Bartlett has been a part of in his short time as Berkeley City Councilmember have been:
- Becoming the nation’s first anti-displacement public legal advocate
- Development of a Paid Family Leave Ordinance for the City of Berkeley
- Increasing funding for supplies for low-income school children
- Promotion of an African American Holistic Resource Center, designed to curb health disparities
- Development of residential wind turbine
